Students

Students studying full-time at a University located in the jurisdiction of this Consulate meet the residence requirement, when they request study visas for a "study abroad program" sponsored by their Universities. For residents of all the other States, please click: jurisdiction.

The Consular administration has full authority to evaluate and request other documents  in addition to those submitted by the applicant. The latter is hereby informed that submitting the documents specified under study visa does not guarantee issuance of the visa. Incomplete applicatons will not be accepted. Rush processing is not possible. Please start the process well in advance especially in the month of June, July and August for fall semesters, and October, November and December for spring semesters.

American and International students applying for a Study Abroad Program visa for periods exceeding 90 days to 365 days (Natinonal Visa) can submit their applications by mail. However, before mailing, they must have their signatures on the application forms legalized/notarized by one of our HONORARY CONSULS/CONSULAR CORRESPONDENTS or by the Study Abroad Program Advisor, if authorized to do so.

International students, applying for any type of study visa for periods up 90 days (Schengen Visa) must apply in person to this Consulate upon appointment because they must have their fingerprints taken.

All students applying for a study visa different from Study Abroad Programs, are required to schedule an appointment to apply in person.

American citizens must apply for study visas only for study periods longer than 90 days (National Visa).

Important notice : Within 8 days of entering Italy with the visa, you must request a  Permesso di Soggiorno (Permit of Stay) to the Questura in the city where your school is located. When requesting the Permesso di soggiorno you may be asked to submit copies of the entire documentation submitted for the visa.
